Saafir-No Return (Goin’ Crazy) [1994]
When Saafir’s first album came out, our local used CD store was selling promo copies for $1 and they had like 30 of them. I’m pretty sure I personally know everybody who bought one. Most people bought it because of the word of mouth that I started, but Saafir had a weird appeal to non-rap fans. He was down with Hieroglyphics which was the one rap crew every skater was sure to know, no matter what genre of music they preferred. Plus he freestyles on Casual’s album and marginal rap fans love freestyle. Most importantly, he was Harold in Menace.
So that was kind of annoying. But the album was awesome. I just re-listened to it for the first time in a while and it really holds up I think. It’s worth more than $1. It’s worth more than $9.99.
