Big Twin ft. Un Pacino & Boogz (link)
I worked for an independent record label for a while and used to crusade on behalf of Un Pacino. Un is nice.

FAT BEATS CLOSING IT'S STORE DOORS
The LA and NYC FatBeats stores are closing. Fat Beats to me hasn’t been what it was in the late 90s in a long time. Similar to hip hop. But that place was a mecca of sorts to a lot of people. RIP FatBeats.
This is the best 12 inch I ever bought at Fat Beats in my opinion.

When I was a kid, I used to take the bus to New York JUST to go to Fat Beats. Now I’ve lived around the corner from it for three years I never went once. I miss the mechanics of records. And I’m going to miss New York.
NYC, I’ll see you around.

Ultramagnetic MCs-Poppa Large (East Coast Mix) [1991]
I once traded a jean jacket for Ultramag’s Funk Your Head Up album. It was a bad trade for me. The jacket had a real nice plaid flannel lining. It wasn’t in style in 1993 when I traded it but I bet it has been in style at some point between now and then. I don’t know much about style. My current preferred sneakers have a...
Saafir-No Return (Goin’ Crazy) [1994]
When Saafir’s first album came out, our local used CD store was selling promo copies for $1 and they had like 30 of them. I’m pretty sure I personally know everybody who bought one. Most people bought it because of the word of mouth that I started, but Saafir had a weird appeal to non-rap fans. He was down with Hieroglyphics which was...

X Clan-Grand Verbalizer, What Time Is It? [1990]
X Clan-Raise The Flag [1990]
So remember a million years ago when I said that TWO great rap albums came out on April 17, 1990 and then I wrote about People’s Instinctive Travels and totally ignored the other album? I’m here to rectify that and not just because I like saying “rectify.”
A long time ago, while Q...
